I got a message on Facebook this morning from one of our church youth. I had written to ask Tim how he'd done in the fair this last week. He emailed me back with enthusiasm. He took second place with his 302 pound pig this year. His pig was the seventh largest at the fair! His pair of pigs sold for large sum of money! He also rebuilt the engine on his four wheeler and took "Best in show" for his efforts. Congratulations Tim!
I also had a chance to see Katie dive this week in competition. It is a beautiful and frightening sight to see. Katie is a sophomore this year and dives with the Varsity. She comes in second consistently after a senior at the High School, but next year will clearly be the top diver. She is graceful and focused as she takes the board. Watching her fling herself forward or backward into somersaults and twists before she hits the water is a thrill.
I am also really proud of Will and Terry this week. A couple of months ago at the initiation of some of our youth in the church, the Session agreed to add Youth Advisory Delegates (YADS) to our session. The youth filled out an application stating why they wanted to serve and what they hoped to bring to the table. Will (a senior) and Terry (a freshman) have been chosen to serve as session YADS for the 2008-20009 school year. I look forward to their input.
I am continually impressed by the character, gifts and faith of our young people. They give me joy in our church and hope for our world. We are blessed to have them among us.

Here we go!
Well, this is a little scary. It's my first blog! I guess everyone makes a beginning somewhere.
So, it's Saturday night about 11:00 PM. I should be in bed by now, but instead I'm thinking about our church and worship tomorrow. I am going over in my mind the things I want to say and wondering if they will be useful. So I check the email to make sure there aren't any important messages concerning tomorrow and notice that our web designer has updated the site to include a link to our new Pastor's blog - "Lighten Up." And I remember that neither Mike or I have yet to blog in yet. Oops! Time to start writing!
Mike and I are hoping this will be a creative way for people in our church to get to know us in a new way. We hope to include insights about ministry, snapshots from our church life and personal musings. We're new at this, so we'll be learning along the way. I have a feeling many people in our church will be learning right along with us. Feel free to drop us an email or make a comment to help us get started. It's an adventure!
If you're new to blog reading, we've added a subscription bar on the side of this blog. It's at the top of the blue box on the right. (Scroll down a little.) You can subscribe to receive this blog in your email by simply typing in your email address and clicking submit. Then just follow the directions. You will need to make sure you click the link that will be sent to your email to confirm your subscription. Happy reading!
