Kudos to our young people

I got a message on Facebook this morning from one of our church youth. I had written to ask Tim how he'd done in the fair this last week. He emailed me back with enthusiasm. He took second place with his 302 pound pig this year. His pig was the seventh largest at the fair! His pair of pigs sold for large sum of money! He also rebuilt the engine on his four wheeler and took "Best in show" for his efforts. Congratulations Tim!

I also had a chance to see Katie dive this week in competition. It is a beautiful and frightening sight to see. Katie is a sophomore this year and dives with the Varsity. She comes in second consistently after a senior at the High School, but next year will clearly be the top diver. She is graceful and focused as she takes the board. Watching her fling herself forward or backward into somersaults and twists before she hits the water is a thrill.

I am also really proud of Will and Terry this week. A couple of months ago at the initiation of some of our youth in the church, the Session agreed to add Youth Advisory Delegates (YADS) to our session. The youth filled out an application stating why they wanted to serve and what they hoped to bring to the table. Will (a senior) and Terry (a freshman) have been chosen to serve as session YADS for the 2008-20009 school year. I look forward to their input.

I am continually impressed by the character, gifts and faith of our young people. They give me joy in our church and hope for our world. We are blessed to have them among us.
